Protecting and restoring wetlands and other natural areas along rivers and streams can help buffer communities from flooding and prevent future costly flood damages. Polk County’s land, water, and wildlife are our natural heritage and we have a stewardship responsibility to protect and preserve them. The Polk County Water & Land Legacy bond will help protect and preserve natural areas that provide access to hunting & fishing as well as helping improve water quality.
Protecting natural areas
Protecting natural areas can play a very important role in preserving the quality of life in Polk County. Parks and natural areas provide spaces where families and children can safely walk, run and bicycle – improving the physical health of Polk County residents, reducing obesity and reducing health care costs.
